В сетях Ethernet - устройство, определенное в стандарте IEEE 802.3 для обеспечения физического соединения с сетевой кабельной системой и включающее преобразователь сигналов между форматами, приемлемыми для сети и конечной станции. Одно устройство может объединять в себе функции приемника и передатчика и называется в этом случае трансивером.
